In GOD (Gold, Oil, Drugs) They Trust

“As it was in Vietnam, Central America and Kosovo, drugs continue to be a huge part of the financial plan for prolonged ground wars. As one cynic put it, "GOD" stands for "Gold, Oil and Drugs". We can be assured that an empire (as opposed to a republic) is emerging in the United States more quickly than many have expected. And the Bush Administration is already acting in a "godlike" manner. It is an empire that may have little need of even the pretense of democracy as American corporate fascism removes its mask in the wake of our election circus, the prostitution of our Supreme Court and the virtual destruction of American government as a servant of anything other than money, greed and power.”- Michael C. Ruppert

  Vol. 8 Number 2

“War and ‘American Intelligence’ have been amongst the biggest contributors to the tidal wave of drugs which is engulfing our societies. Back during World War II, the pattern was set when the US Office of Naval Intelligence collaborated with the mobster and narcotics kingpin "Lucky" Luciano. Roosevelt's government collaborated with the Mafia as enthusiastically as Mussolini had opposed it. The long‑term results of reviving the Mafia to aid the Allied war effort were deadly. Between 1946 and 1952, the number of heroin addicts in the US tripled, thereafter doubling every five years or so. Nor were any lessons learned from this trail of despair. As is now admitted by almost everyone except a few official mouthpieces, the CIA worked in close partnership with the opium warlords in the "Golden Triangle": of East Asia. The funds raised from drugs were unaccountable, and were useful for financing CIA covert operations in Vietnam. A decade later, and the CIA played the same trick again, this time with the Afghan guerrillas fighting the Russians”- from Drugged Into Submission by Ian Buckley

An outgrowth of post WW II US imperialism has been the involvement in drug trafficking in an unholy alliance amongst contract operatives, the CIA, the US government, corrupt foreign governments, some multi-national corporations and “organized crime”. Some of you are familiar with Gary Webb’s groundbreaking series and book  called Dark Alliance in which Webb researched cocaine smuggling in exchange for guns and money to fund the secret Reagan-Bush Iran-CONTRA deal. That was a continuation of a pattern that goes back following WW II. The US government has been heavily involved in the smuggling of illegal drugs which escalated during the Vietnam War. Besides Vietnam, the US was also active in Laos, Cambodia and Thailand. The point where Myanmar (Burma) Laos and Thailand converge at the Sop Rual tributary to the Mekong River is called the Golden Triangle because this is where some of the world’s best opium was grown. CIA assets started exporting opium using CIA front companies. Opium and heroin were so heavy in the area that by 1971 over 34% of US soldiers in South Vietnam were heroin addicts! Opium exports increased dramatically and heroin became more available in the US.

When the Russians invaded Afghanistan, opium was being cultivated big time there and in Pakistan. When the CIA moved in to arm the resistance movement (which gave rise to Osama bin-Laden) they took side action supporting opium growers to fund their covert operations like they were doing with cocaine in Nicaragua.  George W. Bush’s father was prominently on the set when people like Manuel Noriega, Saddam Hussein, Osama bin-Laden and a host of equally vicious dictators, radicals and warlords were cultivated as CIA assets.

The foreign drug cartels in cahoots with corrupt politicians propped up and protected by the US (except when they outlive their usefulness like Noriega and now Hussein) help keep GOD in the forefront; GOD in this case being Gold, Oil and Drugs. The real issues in Afghanistan are oil, natural gas, the trans-Afghani pipeline, opium and strategic geo-political positioning. In Iraq it is oil and geo-political control of the region which translates into gold for those who control the oil and natural gas reserves and the drug smuggling in Middle East and Central Asian regions. In Columbia it is oil, oil pipelines and drugs, in Venezuela it is oil, in Angola it is oil (Angola is the 7th largest US oil exporter) and diamonds, in  Zimbabwe its coal, gold, lithium and chromium.  The US propaganda apparatus has hoodwinked the masses into believing military interventions, covert operations and wars were defending freedom, protecting “our national interests”, waging war on drugs and terrorism. That is propaganda for the suckers and pawns. It’s really about the loot, the land and resources (gold oil and drugs).
